Learn how to prepare a new ignition coil for installation on a Victa lawn mower.
Tools/Parts Required
- Replacement Ignition Coil
- Two Jaw Pullers
- Flat Head Screwdriver
- Wire Brush
Step 1.
The first step is to remove the old ignition coil from the lawn mower, if you require help doing this click here for our tutorial.
Step 2
You’ll notice when comparing the new and old ignition coil that the old one has an additional metal piece; this piece needs to be removed and installed into the new ignition coil. To remove it you’ll first need to bend 2 tabs (one on either side) out of the way.
Step 3
After the tabs have been bent out of the way you can remove the metal piece. If possible you can do this with your hands – we find the two jaw pullers work best. The tabs holding the metal piece in place may fall out once it’s removed, make sure you hold on to them for later. If you feel the piece you’ve now removed needs a clean then do so with a wire brush or drill attachment – ensure you clean in the correct direction or else you risk damaging the piece.
Step 4
Now that everything is all clean, grab you new ignition coil and the metal piece you just removed. Ensure that all the tabs are in correct position, and that the orientation of the ignition coil is correct (Please note the video shows the coil being installed upside down by mistake). Then slide the metal piece in position and bend the tabs on either side in order to hold it there.
Step 5
Finally locate the hole on the ignition coil where the wire is to be installed; all that needs to be done is for the wire to be placed in the hole, then rotated in a clockwise direction until tight.
Great series of videos guys but in the above vid you put the coil back together incorrectly. A little misleading especially since in the text you refer to the video for correct placement.
