Repacking a muffler may help your lawn mower to run more quietly.
- Needle Nose Pliers
- Flat Head Screwdriver
- Packing From Old Muffler Or Steel Wool
Remove the top cover from the mower, then use the flat head screw driver to pry off the top and bottom clips holding the muffler in place.
Now the muffler has been removed, stuff the new packing into the hole, push the packing down to the edges of the muffler as much as possible (a screw driver may help with this).
Re-install the muffler by hooking it back into the groove on the base of the mower where it sits. Using the screw driver and pliers reconnect the two clips holding the muffler. Make sure that the muffler lines up with the exhaust port.
Replace the top cover, doing up the 3 screws holding it.
