Learn how to remove a Victa engine from the main chassis of the lawn mower.
Tools/Parts Required
- Socket Wrench - 12 & 24mm Sockets
- Phillips Head Screwdriver
Step 1.
Either disconnect the fuel line and remove the top cover or empty fuel from the mower before turning it onto its side.
Step 2
Remove the blade carrier with blades attached by undoing the bolt in its center, which holds it in place (use the 24mm(1 inch) socket). If the blade carrier spins whilst loosening the bolt, jam it in place with a piece of wood or something similar to make it possible to remove the bolt.
Step 3
Remove the four bolts on the underside of the mower which hold the engine in place (now visible after removing the backplate). Be aware that the engine will fall out when all bolts are removed – be ready to hold it in place or else it will fall (and it’s heavy!). Make sure you don’t lose any of the bolts or plates you have undone.
Step 4
Next you may slower remove the engine from the base of the mower. There should be a thin metal plate on the bottom of the engine – make note of its position for reassembly.
Step 5
The final step is to disconnect the carburetor. Unplug all the hosing connecting the carburetor to the engine, pull out the ignition cables going into the carburetor. Twist the carburetor then pull it away from the engine. The engine should now be free.
Hi there. Thanks so much for your tutorials – they have been so helpful!
Whilst recently attempting to repair my Victa Super 600 that was not starting, i noticed that the red kill wire was not connected to the pin. Would this affect the starting of the lawn mower and can i buy the pin (and wire) anywhere?
Thanks
Lianne
Hi Lianne
great to hear our tutorials are helpful, the red kill wire being disconnected will only stop the lawn mower from starting if it is in contact with the black kill wire or the steel frame, however with it not connected the lawn mower will not turn off when you set the throttle to stop. we can order and supply you a replacement Ignition wire or alternatively you could install a custom on/off switch as seen in one of our tutorials. You can contact me via the form on the contact us page to arrange a order for the Ignition Wire.
Best Regards
Lachlan

Hi Asenna
This video will help you understand the keystart on the victa mowers. I do not think you can buy new starter motors for these models anymore.
